June 22, 1973 in West Helena, Arkansas, Jerry Colbert, Jr. was born to the proud parents of Jerry and Leanner Colbert. Jerry, Jr. (or Lil’ Jerry as he was so affectionately called) was the older of two children born to these proud parents. Jerry gained his wings and transitioned to be with his Lord and Savior on March 27, 2021 at Hermann Memorial Northeast Hospital in Humble, Texas.
Jerry attended the schools of West Helena, graduating from Central High School in 1991. While attending Central High School, he was a member of the Central High School Cougars’ Marching Band as well as the Mass Choir (Acapella).
He was preceded in his transition by his maternal grandparents: Beatrice Mickens and Benny Henderson; his paternal grandparents: Louis and Clara Colbert; and a special uncle and aunt: Ray C. Colbert and Katherine Harrison.
Jerry confessed his life to Christ at an early age at the Silver Cloud Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorage of the late Rev. J.W. Webb. From the time of his confession to Christ, he continued to serve by singing praises to his Lord whenever and wherever he could never seeking any recognition for his talents. After relocating to Houston, Texas, he united with the Refreshing Church where he lived by the motto of being restored, renewed, and revived in Christ Jesus. He was employed as one of the grounds keepers at the Houston Zoo. Jerry’s love for animals gave him a feeling of exaltation rather than work each day that he fulfilled his job requirements. He believed, “If you love the job you do, it will never seem like work.” He was a humorous, loving son, husband, father, brother, and friend to many. He enjoyed spending time with his family, making people laugh, watching movies, listening to music, and playing video games.
In addition to his parents, he leaves to cherish his precious memories his very special friend and fiancée: Ms. Courtney Crutchfield of Houston, Texas; his wife: Felicia Colbert of West Helena, Arkansas; five (5) daughters: Ariel Colbert, Nastassja Colbert, and Jerrika Colbert of McDonough, Georgia; Jerrlysa Colbert of Houston, Texas; and India Colbert of Hope Mills, North Carolina; one (1) step-daughter: Rochelle of West Helena, Arkansas; one (1) son: Justin Colbert of Houston, Texas; one (1) sister: Karen Colbert of Mercer Island, Washington; three (3) grandchildren; one (1) very special nephew: Malik Funches of Mercer Island, Washington; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Our world is a better place because of his care-free, jovial personality which radiated his presence.
