Cora Lee Thomas Obituary

Mrs. Cora Lee Goods-Thomas was born on January 1, 1936 to James Goode and Ethel Franklin of Big Creek in Phillips County.

On September 12, 1952, Cora Lee Goods married her husband of  sixty-eight (68) years, Deacon Clarence Thomas, until her transition on Monday, December 11, 2023.  Cora Lee Thomas was a devoted Deaconess at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church.  She loved God and was dutiful beside her husband.  She was always happy to cook the most delicious sweet potato pies for church functions and potlucks.

Cora lived a life full of joy, peace, and happiness.  Cora Lee Thomas worked at Cedar Lodge Nursing Home as a CNA for 20 + years where she retired.  Everyone who met or worked with her would tell the story of her compassion for the residents and workers.  She was a devoted mother and grandmother to all, especially her own children and grandchildren.  There was nothing that you could ask Mrs. Cora Lee that she would not do her best to provide.  Oftentimes, she would deny herself to make sure that everyone around her was comfortable and cared for.  She was a warm, compassionate, and vibrant woman who always went out of her way to help others—no matter what.

She was a proud and humble woman who had a passion for life.  She endeared herself to everyone she came in contact with, and it is a great testament to her nature that she formed so many long-lasting friendships over the years.  She was an excellent cook as well.  There was never a time that she would not provide a meal for her family, and as well as others.

Even after her retirement, she thrived in her own way.  She always kept busy and never felt sorry for herself.  After her late husband became ill, she worked diligently to be his caretaker before he was later transferred to Crest Park Nursing Home in Helena, Arkansas where he preceded her in death.  There was never a day that she would not talk to him or go be by his side at the Nursing Home.

While her health was a challenging experience in life, she still enjoyed visits from her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  She kept a positive attitude during these visits and continued to give everyone advice on family union and the love of God until her health failed completely.  It is indeed an honor for the Thomas Family to share our precious memories of our mother.  She will be missed by all, but her memory will live on in us forever.  We love you so much, Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother, and we will miss you more than words can say.

Cora was preceded in death by her parents:  James Goods and Ethel Franklin; her late husband: Clarence Thomas; four (4) sons:  Shelby Thomas, Sr.; Harrison Thomas; David Bernard Thomas, Sr.; and Elvin James Thomas; and one (1) sister:  Wealthy Ann Goods.

Cora leaves to cherish her memories two (2) daughters:  Delois Jean Thomas of Marvell, Arkansas; and Janell Thomas of Little Rock, Arkansas; three (3) sons:  William (Verlin) Thomas of Melwood, Arkansas; Alfred (Kisa) Thomas of Mabelvale, Arkansas; and Courtney (Tequila) Thomas of Little Rock, Arkansas; two (2) daughters-in-law:  Annette Thomas of Shreveport, Louisiana; and Frederica Thomas of Little Rock, Arkansas; twenty-five (25) grandchildren; fifteen (15) great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives, and friends.
