Granny, Gran, G-Mama, Granny Girl, Big Momma, Vess, Vesta, Aunt Vesta, Mrs. Davis….were titles of endearment given by family and friends to Arvesta Davis born on July 27, 1931 to the late Thornton Hull and Pearlie Robertson Hull.
She confessed a hope in Christ at an early age at Corinth Missionary Baptist Church. She later moved her membership to Wesley Chapel AME Church in Marvell, Arkansas where she remained a faithful member and served on the Missionary Board. She loved the Lord. You could catch her humming her favorite hymns and calling out to the Lord. She was loving, funny, and would always speak her mind.
Arvesta was married to Hiram Walker and to this union, a son was born. Then she met and married her love. She was united in Holy Matrimony to Robert Davis, Sr. and to this union, five (5) children were born. Arvesta was a homemaker that devoted her life to taking care of her children. She played a vital part in the raising of her grandchildren.
Reunited again with her love, Robert Davis, Sr. She is also preceded in death by her parents: Thornton and Pearlie Robertson Hull; her daughters: Curistine Davis; Earnestine Lawson; and Billie Golden; and her sister: Lucille Walker. Joining her forty-eight (48) hours later and taking her hand to ascend to their eternal home was her daughter, Bobbie Morrow.
Arvesta leaves to cherish her memories and love her sons: Leroy (Shirley) Walker of Pine Bluff, Arkansas; and Robert Davis, Jr. of Marvell, Arkansas; her sister: Clara Snell of Madison, Alabama; her son-in-law: Sylvester Young, Sr. of Turner, Arkansas; ten (10) grandchildren; ten (10) great-grandchildren; two (2) great-great-grandchildren; two (2) special friends: Bertha Cox of Marvell, Arkansas; and Mildred English of Marvell, Arkansas; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
